Francisella as a Freshman

Like her brother and sister before her Francisella set off for Sim State University. She felt nervous like Bacillus did. Sella lacked the confidence of Yersinia. She and Orlando decided to move into the house Yersinia had recently moved out of and to join her friend Sophie Miguel living there. Sella was shy enough that she didn’t really want to have to live in a dorm and try and meet tons of new people. She just wasn’t her sister in that regard. Sella just didn’t quite have the confidence of her older brother and sister.

The Llama Blazers

With their father having chosen which of them will be the heir both Bacillus and Yersinia felt like they had a large weight lifted off their shoulders. Bacillus felt slightly put out that his father didn’t chose him, he was after all the oldest but he got over it quickly. And the more he thought about it the more relieved he became. He had no restraints, nothing to hold him back. He felt a lot less like he was going to need his father’s approval for things now. Although his father had met Mallory and liked her very much so that really wasn’t as much of an issue as Bacillus expected.

Bacillus’s feelings for Mallory had intensified as time passed. They were quickly moving past their original skirmishes and Bacillus was finding himself madly in love with her. In fact, there was starting to be little doubt in Bacillus’s mind that he would marry Mallory when they had both finished school. But for now they were just taking their time and enjoying their relationship together.

A few days before the start of his junior year Bacillus had to go see an aspiration career councilor. Bacillus did not think this was necessary. He knew what he wanted to be, although surely his father would kill him if he found out the truth. The councilor tried to convince him to either change majors or change aspirations. “Listen, I know what I’m doing. I’m keeping things how they are,” Bacillus had told him. This enraged his councilor and the guy actually kicked Bacillus out of his office and told him never to come back. Bacillus was more than willing to oblige and he continued down his path of fortune and kept his major as literature.

Choosing the Heir

Francisella was a teenager and the last of the Bacter children remaining in the house. She was very much hoping to head of to college soon and follow along in the footsteps of her two older siblings. Francisella was a lot like her father. She too had an aspiration for knowledge and was a straight A student in private school. Anthracis and Lora never once had to tell her to do her homework. She had gotten a job to have some more responsibility despite her parents’ attempts to keep her a child as long as they could. She knew her father had a tough decision to make and she didn’t want to get in the way of his being able to make it so she didn’t bring up whether or not he was even considering her.

Francisella was right. Anthracis did have a difficult decision to make. He stood in her doorway watching her work diligently on her homework. He had to decide who would be his heir. Francisella was a wonderful child and he knew she would be ideal but he had two other children to consider. He had to make the decision soon but for now he just watched his Sella do her homework.

Yersinia’s Resolution

Yersinia woke up the morning after Gordon left and felt very confused. She didn’t understand what had just happened to her. She thought that Gordon loved her; she thought that she loved Gordon. If this was the case, why would he have had done what he did? She realized she needed to talk to somebody. She couldn’t talk to her father or Bacillus because they would just fly off the handle and she certainly couldn’t talk to Francisella. What would a high school student know about what had happened to her? The only person she could think of to talk to was Sophie. But how was she going to bring it up? Hey Sophie, my boyfriend tried to take advantage of me? That just didn’t sound right.

She got home from class and saw that Sophie was working out in the living room. Yersinia didn’t want to disturb her so she went into the kitchen, sat down at the table and dropped her head into her hands. She was very confused. Everything had seemed so right between her and Gordon, how could it have gone so wrong?

The Truth

After discovering Mallory in bed with him Bacillus leapt from the bed and ran from the room. What had happened? He couldn’t remember what had happened the night before. His mind was spinning. Why was Mallory Mace in his bed? Why was he in his underwear? What was she wearing? Had he had sex with her? What had happened? That’s it; Bacillus said to himself, I am never drinking again. How was he going to find out what happened? He didn’t even want to speak to Mallory. He silently crept back into his room and grabbed some clothes, threw them on and left the house. He did not want to be there when she woke up.

Bacillus went to campus to clear his head a little bit. He had run into his sister but really didn’t want to talk to her about what had happened. What would Yersi know anyway? He realized that being on campus wasn’t helping so he went back home. When he got there he discovered Mallory in the kitchen. He froze. Mallory turned to him, “Heya Baby-Face.” Her smile suggested something that Bacillus did not want to have confirmed. “How’d ya sleep last night?” She took a step closer to him and reached out to touch his face. He slapped her hand away. She looked at him hurt. “What’s going on, Baby-Face?” “Why don’t you tell me?” Bacillus roared back. “What?” “What happened last night? Why were you in my bed?” “Baby-Face, listen, its not what you think.” “STOP CALLING ME BABY-FACE!” “Just listen.” “NO! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT! WHY CAN’T YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE? LEAVE ME ALONE!” Bacillus stormed up to his bedroom and locked the door.

Entering Elderhood

With two children in college and a third in high school Anthracis was starting to feel his age. He was 53 years old, his blonde hair had started to turn silver and his smooth skin had begun to crease. He realized that in a few days he would be 54, that special age when the transition to an elder would become completed. Lora was talking of having a party for him. He wasn’t so sure he wanted to celebrate that turning point in his life. Lora finally convinced to let her throw the party as long as she only invited Bacillus and Yersinia back from college. She agreed and the party was set for the night of his 54th birthday.

Anthracis’s birthday rolled around and at 6 pm Yersinia and Bacillus arrived from college. Anthracis and Lora were so thrilled to see their kids. It was hard having them off at school. Anthracis was disappointed because Francisella had to work. He wished she wasn’t working and would just enjoy being a teenager but her thirst for knowledge was not unlike his own and she loved her job so he let her be. Lora grabbed Bacillus as soon as he walked in the door and started to smother her son. Yersinia went up to Anthracis to speak with him. He still didn’t know about her relationship with Gordon or the path it had almost gone down a few days ago. They chatted about school and then Yersinia, being the typical college student, started asking her dad for money. Anthracis just chuckled, patted her on the shoulder and walked into the kitchen.

Lora called Anthracis over to the cake she had made. It was time for him to blow out his candles and make his transition. Lora, Bacillus and Yersinia gathered around him while the many, many candles on the cake were lit and Anthracis prepared to blow them out.

Yersina’s First Term

Yersinia felt none of the nerves of her brother or father when they started college. Of course Yersinia had her best friend Sophie coming to school with her. Yersinia had done well with her scholarships achieving over $6000 in them. With this and the additional money Sophie could provide, the two girls decided to skip the dorm life and move right into their own house. Of course Yersinia planned to eventually end up at Beta Eta Pi with Bacillus but she didn’t tell Sophie that when they moved in together. Yersinia could hardly contain her excitement when they pulled up to the house she and Sophie would be living in. She got out of the cab and realized she was no longer a child. She had become a young woman.

Bacillus’s Second Big Suprise

After the shock Bacillus received from Erin he decided he needed to talk to her about the whole Mallory pledging thing. One morning before class Bacillus approached Erin, “Hey Erin, can I talk to you for a minute about the pledging thing?” “Sure Bac, what’s up?” “Well, I understand we are a fraternity and that we need pledges and everything but I think you should reconsider having Mallory Mace pledge.” “Why? Mallory would be a great addition to Beta Eta Pi.” “I don’t like her.” “How can you not like Mallory? She is so sweet.” “It’s a long story but I really don’t like her.” “Listen Bacillus, I know that your father founded this frat and all but last time I checked I was the president of this fraternity, not you. Mallory is pledging and that is all there is too it!”

Bacillus was livid. He didn’t know how Erin could completely disregard his feelings about this. He was angry with her. He did not want Mallory living in the same house as him. Bacillus decided that he would bring it up to Erin again later that day. So Bacillus tossed his books into his bag and set off to class.

Anthracis’s Disappearance

A few days had passed since the incident between Yersinia and the burglar. Anthracis had let her go to Bacillus’s party, even though he knew full well that the “small get-together” was a lie. It didn’t seem to make much of a difference to Yersinia though, she was still mad at her father about Gordon.

One morning at breakfast Anthracis was trying to get her to speak. Lora had left for work already and she usually acted as a buffer between the two feuding family members. “So, Yersinia, what do you have planned for today?” She didn’t speak to him but just focused on her pancakes. Francisella looked from her sister to her father, she knew she should take this opportunity to get her father’s attention. But Anthracis spoke up again, “You know, anytime you want to bring friends of yours by, you can. What about that boy Ricky that was here? You could have him come over any time.” Yersinia just glared at her father and then snapped, “Ricky isn’t my friend.” She got up from the table and stormed off to her bedroom to wait for the bus.

Anthracis just stared after her. Francisella looked at her father and then piped up, “Daddy, Daddy, guess what?” Anthracis snapped out of his daze and turned to his youngest child, “What is it, Sella?” “They are doing this play at school, Daddy, and guess who they want to play the lead, Daddy?” Anthracis smiled, “I have no idea who they could want.” “Daddy! They want me to!” “You!” Anthracis cried doing his best to sound utterly shocked. Francisella started to giggle and then got up from the table and hugged her dad. “Well,” Anthracis thought, “At least one of my daughters still thinks I’m something special.”

Bacillus’s Surprise

After learning that his dad’s old friend Erin Davis was still on campus and riding with her to his sister’s birthday party, Bacillus decided to give her a call. It was during this phone call that she suggested he rush the old frat. “You know Bacillus, part of your dad’s dream when he founded Beta Eta Pi was to have all his kids become members. You should really think about rushing.” “You think so? How many members do you have?” “Um, well you see, that’s the thing. After your dad left we really had a hard time getting pledges. So, that’s why I stuck around. I couldn’t let you dad’s dream die so I just stuck around, you know taking a really long time to get my degree.” “I’ll give it some thought Erin.” “You really should. Maybe we can get it up and going again.” “Yeah, maybe.” Bacillus hung up the phone a little unsure of what to make of Erin’s proposition. Ever since he was a little boy he had always wanted to please his dad, but a frat? He wasn’t real sure if that was quite his cup of tea. He’d definitely have to do some thinking about that one.

Spring semester started shortly after Yersinia’s birthday and once it did Bacillus heard from Erin a lot more. She was really for him joining the frat. Bacillus finally gave in and decided that he would follow along the path his father had intended for him. He told Erin he’d join and she let him know she’d send a cab for him. Bacillus agreed and packed up his things to take the cab to Beta Eta Pi. As he was climbing in the cab to go, Mallory was walking by. He pretended not to see her but he did notice a slightly hurt look on her face as he pulled the door shut and sped off to his new home.
